Acceptable Use
A tool that shows what a computer is doing can be misused to surveil people. This policy sets the boundaries. (Most vendors bury this in their terms — we state it on its own.)

The rule
Use QuietStewardship and its agent only on computers you own, or that you are explicitly authorized to monitor. If other people use a machine you run the agent on, you are responsible for informing them, where the law requires it.
Prohibited uses
- Covert surveillance of people without their knowledge or a lawful basis.
- Monitoring a device you don’t own and aren’t authorized to administer (e.g. another person’s phone or computer).
- Stalking, harassment, or any use that violates privacy, employment, or wiretap laws.
- Using the Site or agent to attack, overload, or probe systems you don’t control.
If you administer machines for others
IT administrators and managed-service providers may deploy the agent on devices they are authorized to manage, consistent with their organization’s policies and applicable law, including any duty to notify end users. Because the agent keeps data on each device, an administrator’s reach is limited to what that device’s user can already see locally.
Enforcement
Violating this policy terminates your license to use the agent (see the Agent Software License) and your permission to use the Site.
