Privacy Policy

The short version: your machine's diagnostics never leave your machine. This policy explains the little data the website itself handles, and confirms what the agent does not do.

Last updated June 13, 2026

1. Scope

This policy covers quietstewardship.com(the “Site”) and the QuietStewardship local agent (the “Agent”) you may download and run on your own computer. QuietStewardship is operated by the QuietStewardship project (“we”, “us”).

2. The data path, in one sentence

The dashboard runs in your browser and reads the Agent directly over your computer’s loopback address (localhost). Your host diagnostics and activity are never transmitted to us — there is no server-side copy. You can confirm this yourself on the Verify it yourself page.

3. Information the Site collects

  • Server logs. Like any website, our web server records standard request metadata (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for the pages you load. This is operational and security data about web requests— not about your computer’s internals.
  • Settings stored in your browser. The dashboard saves your chosen agent URL and (optional) pairing token in your browser’s localStorage. This never leaves your browser.
  • Anonymous website analytics. We use privacy-respecting, opt-out analytics (PostHog) for page views, downloads, rough country, and feature clicks — no advertising or cross-site tracking, and never your host data. Details: Website Analytics; see also our Cookie Notice.

4. Information the Agent collects

The Agent reads diagnostics and recent activity from the machine it runs on and serves them locally. In background mode it stores periodic samples on that same machine’s disk for your later review. It makes no outbound network connections. The full inventory of what it reads, stores, and never sends is in the Agent Data-Handling & Transparency disclosure.

5. What we do NOT do

  • We do not receive, store, proxy, or have access to your host diagnostics or activity.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We do not use advertising networks or cross-site trackers.
  • We do not build profiles of your device or behaviour.

6. How we use Site information

Server logs are used only to operate, secure, and debug the Site (e.g. detecting abuse, diagnosing errors). We do not use them for advertising.

7. Sharing

We share Site operational data only with the infrastructure providers needed to run the Site (see Sub-processors), and where required by law. Because we never receive your host data, we cannot share it — see Government Requests & Transparency.

8. International transfers, retention & security

Site logs are retained for a limited period for security and debugging, then deleted or aggregated. We protect the Site with HTTPS/TLS and a strict Content-Security-Policy. Your host data’s “retention” is entirely under your control: it lives only on your disk and you can delete it at any time (see the Agent disclosure).

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR/UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold. Since the only personal data we hold is limited Site server logs, such requests are narrow in scope. Contact us at the address below.

10. Children

The Site and Agent are not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age in your region).
